INDIAN SPRINGS PERSONAL PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM.
REMINDING EACH OTHER TO BE PREPARED.
PERSONAL PREPAREDNESS will make our community more resilient during a crisis such as a serious earthquake. Please do not assume that someone else will be prepared for you.

WATER.
Your most valuable resource. There are dozens of options for flexible water storage. A simple internet search will provide you with options that fit your personal situation. Plan for at least three gallons per person per day but store as much as possible.  Anyone that needs help choosing and setting up water storage can contact me directly.

CANNED FOOD.
No explanation required. Store as much non perishable food as possible. Make sure you have a manual can opener!

KEEP AT LEAST 1/2 TANK OF GAS IN YOUR CAR.
Your car can keep you warm, keep you cool, be a radio, charge your phone and can be a safe place to sleep if you feel uncomfortable being indoors after an earthquake.

– FIRE EXTINGUISHER / FIRE BLANKET.
A $30 fire extinguisher could literally prevent the loss of your home. Not only could you save your own home but you may prevent a fire from spreading to other homes. Purchase as many small fire extinguishers as you can afford. If you have an outdoor grill make sure to have a Fire Blanket mounted nearby. Anyone who needs help choosing and/or installing fire extinguishers may contact me.

HEAD-WORN FLASHLIGHTS.
A very valuable resource. They let you function with your hands free. A simple asset that you don’t appreciate until you need it. These can be purchased locally or through amazon.

FIRST AID SUPPLIES.
Rubbing alcohol and bandages are a bare minimum.

I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE ANYONE WITH INTEREST TO VOLUNTEER AS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH LEADER.
This would simply entail being familiar with a certain area of the park so that we can coordinate as community to direct attention to any urgent issues. Hopefully we can find at least one full-time resident per area. We have walkie-talkies that can be issued for communication and we would test them periodically.

I participate in a monthly emergency radio communication with the city of palm desert hoa radio system. in the event of severe situations this may be used to request special assistance.

These are only a few of the most important Personal Preparedness considerations. I look forward to continuing this important conversation and working with other interested neighbors. If anyone would like help choosing supplies please feel free to contact me.
